Glenn Winn Campership Program
The United Way of Northwest Connecticut sponsors the Glenn Winn Jr. Campership Fund which has raised over $77,000 since its inception in 2000. The Glenn Winn, Jr. Campership Program is designed to give financial support to local youths that may not otherwise be able to attend summer camps in Northwest Connecticut. The program was created in memory of Glenn Winn, Jr., son of Donna Winn, Torrington City Recreation Department employee. Glenn Winn, Jr. was tragically killed in a car accident in September of 1997 at the age of nineteen.
Individuals, families and organizations wishing to contribute to this program may send their donations to The Glenn Winn, Jr. Campership Program at the United Way of Northwest Connecticut, PO Box 1001, Torrington, CT 06790. Every dollar contributed will be invested in future camperships for youngsters to experience a local camp or a medical related camp appropriate to the child’s needs.
Families needing financial assistance contact the camp of their choice and file all of the registration and financial assistance forms provided by the camp. The camps review the requests and submit appropriate applicants to the United Way of Northwest Connecticut for funding with certification of the camper’s family need. For additional questions on the process, please call the United Way of Northwest Connecticut at 860-489-4131.
